This stunning Acapulco dress from Peter Trends' current Emanuella collection was purchased on order in September 2017 from the Peter Trends Roseville design studio and was worn once at my November 2017 wedding. Peter Trends is an Australian designer and the Emanuella collection, which is an exclusive collection with bespoke options, with an emphasis on the finish of each individual gown.
The dress is a very flattering classic A-line in style giving a great hourglass figure, with a fitted bodice to the waist then softly falling in georgette layers over the hips. The floaty skirt makes this dress perfect for an outdoor, rustic, boho or beach wedding. I felt like a true princess in this dress and my guests complimented me on many aspects of my dress. I think it looks beautiful in my photographs. My photographers commented on how different my dress was from the ‘same old same old’ lace dresses that they see week after week, and how well it suited an outdoor wedding.
I chose this dress for the special detailed look of the bodice, which features hand-sewn seed pearls. I had the skinny straps on the original design replaced with cap sleeves for comfort and to balance the shape of the bodice. The cap sleeves are fastened to the dress with a flat button so can easily be removed if desired.
The skirt features a lace panel in a split on the right-hand side that adds a hint of interest when walking and is not obvious when standing still (it could be sewn closed if not desired). The silk georgette fabric of the skirt is of premium quality, and looks and feels superior to tulle, yet is light and flows beautifully when walking and dancing.
The dress was so comfortable and easy to wear on the day. The bodice fully boned and is so supportive from the waist up and gave me a beautiful pulled in waistline. I didn't need to wear a bra. The dress closes at the back with a zip which is overlaid with small buttons – quick and easy to get on and off. The colour of the dress is called ‘rum’ – it’s a flattering medium ivory shade that is not too dark for fair skin.
At the time of the wedding, I was a standard size 10 (in dresses in brands like Review, Portmans and Alannah Hill). Bust size C/D Cup. No cups were put in the bust, but they could be added. The dress was originally ordered in the brand’s size 14 (more like a 12) and taken in along the side seams to the waist. The soft nature of the skirt makes it an easy fit over the hips and tummy – no worries about bulging. There is a slight train at the back.
The dress has been professionally drycleaned at Deluxe Drycleaning Burwood and is currently stored hanging up in its original garment bag. If you live locally and are a serious buyer, feel welcome to make a time to try on the dress (no tan or makeup).
The dress cost $2686 plus over $600 of alterations. Realistically priced for sale at $1100. Buyer responsible for any postage costs – prefer to sell to Sydney buyer.
Taken in: Bought in a Size 14 (their size 14 - more like a 12) and bodice taken in on sides. Cap sleeves added and sewn in with flat buttons (so they can be removed if desired). Professionally hemmed. I am 168 cm tall and wore mid-height heels.
